Description
This is a brilliant depiction of the famous scene told in Genesis 32:22-32 where Jacob wrestles through the night with the Angel of the Lord as the end of which bout he earns his new name of Israel, prince of God, from the original Jacob, or Trickster. The artist was twenty-two when he created this. He died at the age of forty-one. The original painting is in the Musee Roger-Quilliot in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
